We begin the new year with Jupiter in Scorpio and Saturn in its home sign of Capricorn since October and December 2017, respectively. In 2018, the next formidable sign change will be Uranus moving into Taurus in May, but I’ll get to that in a minute.
The best news of the year comes from 2 Jupiter/Neptune trines and a Grand Earth Trine. The Jupiter/Neptune lifts our spirits and helps ease the impact of the changes that Uranus will bring. Their energy will foster a generosity of spirit that has been sorely lacking in our society for a while now. Jupiter/Neptune is a blending of abundance and compassion carrying an optimism and faith that things will get better. The Grand Earth trine in August between the Sun, Uranus and Saturn can help bridge the gaps between the old and the new by focusing our minds on how to being our dreams to earth.
We have only 3 retrograde periods for Mercury this year in March, July and November, but they all are in Fire signs. And we have retrograde periods for both Mars and Venus. Venus begins her retrograde period in Scorpio, the sign of her detriment, so this is a huge NO GO for anyone planning a wedding between October and November. Mars’ retrograde transit will put Mars in Aquarius for 6 months, not its customary 6 weeks. This can be a somewhat violate and unpredictable combination.
The eclipses will be nowhere near as dramatic as last year. This year we will have 3 partial solar eclipses and two total lunar eclipses in January/February and July/August.
Now the biggest news of 2018 – Uranus moves into Taurus on May 15, 2018 until April 26, 2026. Because Taurus is an earth element, this sign change signals major showdowns between technology (Uranus) and Mother Earth (Taurus) and marks a major new cycle. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was in 1935 to 1942, a time best remembered for The Great Depression, the beginning of World War II and King Edward’s abdication. This 21st century transit could also signal drastic changes in our climate with continued unpredictable weather. Taurus through its ruler Venus also presides over money and finances, so there could be sudden shifts in The Stock Market and financial institutions in general. I’ll have more information on this transit, it surely bears watching.
