Uranus in Taurus - The Bull in the China Shop

For the last 7 years, Uranus the planet of change and innovation has been in active, aggressive Aries.  We had overhauls to banking and commerce.  The way we communicate with each other has changed with the ever increasing use of Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.  There have been dramatic upsets in politics, such as our most recent presidential election and the Brexit vote in the UK.  Now we are on the precipice of a new era as Uranus moves into Taurus on May 15th.  On this same day the New Moon moves into Taurus as well, making this the most fertile time of the year to initiate new beginnings in the material world.

First, let’s have a quick review of what kind of energy we’re dealing with.  Discovered in 1781, Uranus takes 84 years to traverse through the zodiac and remains in each sign on an average of 7 years. Along with Neptune and Pluto, it comprises the outer planets and these planets influence generations. Two keywords for Uranus are change and freedom. Taurus, whose symbol is the Bull is ruled by the planet Venus, which in addition to love matters also rules our finances. It is a fixed earth sign meaning it is stable and grounded. This is a sign that’s slow to change and would prefer a steady life.

Uranus is in the sign of its “fall” in Taurus which is a term astrologers use for saying the combined energy here is not harmonious. Taurus favors the tried and true while Uranus favors the new and different. Taurus craves security and routine where Uranus is looking for excitement and spontaneity. When theses energies combine we no longer have placid Ferdinand smelling flowers in the field, we have a mess to clean up in the china shop. The last time Uranus was in Taurus was 1935 to 1942.  If you remember your history those years included The Great Depression, the beginning of WWII and the abdication of King Edward VIII of England.  This 21st century return to Taurus could signal drastic changes to the Earth, including all types of extreme weather which Uranus is known for. When it entered Aries back in 2011, the earthquakes and tsunamis that occurred in Japan triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Here are some ways this transit of Uranus will affect us:

·       Uranus will reinvent the way we spend, save, invest and design our lifestyles. The ways that you seek stability and comfort are going to be up for review under this energy. You may also find that what you once thought was secure and stable is no longer. Perhaps we are being called to dig a little deeper and learn to cultivate these feelings from within. On the practical side of things however, it would be wise for us to become knowledgeable about our long term monetary goals/investments.  If hiring a financial advisor is not possible, at the very least find some reputable financial websites to learn from and monitor.

·       We can’t forget that Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love.  It will come as no surprise that our personal lives, relationships and sexuality are also ripe for revolution. Those that celebrate alternative lifestyles and transgendered individuals will continue to rise as more people find their voices and refuse to deny who they are and who they love.  And we have not heard the last of the #metoo movement.

·       Technology is also Uranus’ purview and I can’t wait to see what the next 7 years will bring our way.  During the last transit, here are a few of the innovations and inventions that occurred: Fluorescent lighting, commercially made nylon, the groundwork for color TV, FM radio receivers and the ball point pen. 3D printers and self-driving cars are only the beginning. Another possibility is that we may see the combination of technology and fashion become more commonplace.  We already have the Apple Watch and FitBits, maybe smartshoes for athletes could be next.
