So we can all shake off the lingering effects of Mercury Retrograde from last month. Even though April has 3 planets moving retrograde, these periods will be more reflective than chaotic, allowing us to get plans moving. We still have plenty of that Aries (until the 20th) energy to ignite our plans going forward.
The Moons this month offer some insights into our relationships. While the Aries New Moon on April 5 is usually a time for new beginnings, its wild square with Saturn restrains the typical “leap before looking” Aries M.O. But it helps us to be cautious and not repeat old patterns. The Full Moon on April 19 is the second Libra Full Moon this year. As the Moon will be on the final 29th degree of Libra, it’s critical that we resolve issues in our relationships. Individual freedom versus the need for working partnerships in all ways is a challenge.
On April 10 Jupiter will begin its retrograde period. Since Jupiter rules expansion and exaggeration, these regular turning-back periods are kind of like a self-cleaning oven: They keep things from getting out of hand. Retrograde motion slows down Jupiter’s tendency to make things bigger. It’s almost a sort of automatic braking system. Inner growth must be matched with outer growth. Sagittarius energy can get carried away, buoyed on a tide of optimism. Whilst Jupiter is King here, there is still the danger of going too far too fast. The retrograde period gives us some natural time for reflection.
Mercury enters Aries on April 17 and marks a time when ideas move quickly and words tend flow without reflection. Aries opens doors through which others will follow. Pioneering thinking is about pushing the envelope. Watch out though, aggressive speech may come too easily, so temper these impulses, if you can. Avoid the tendency to over-share as well.
The Sun then enters Taurus on April 20 and this transit asks that we focus on practicalities and appreciate the simple life. Taurus likes things to be as uncomplicated as possible. Whether we’re tending the garden or doing the accounts, we need to just focus on the task at hand. Venus also changes signs into Aries on the same day. While it isn’t the sign where Venus functions at her best, hearts are bursting with fiery passion. If we can combine that with the Taurus Sun’s steady pace than this could be perfect for creative projects and adds a little spice to relationships. Yet we must exercise caution against it being all about "me" or the next 6 weeks could be constant struggle between your needs over your partner's.
On April 24 Pluto in Capricorn is transiting retrograde, we are urged to let go of attitudes, thinking or communication patterns, security drives, rigid emotions; a time to undergo an internal form of house cleaning. It is a good time to research into our own Souls in order to determine exactly what we do or do not need. Because Pluto retrograde imparts an intense power for investigation, we should use this time to assess what reoccurring patterns in our lives make us feel out of control, where and why do we continually give our power away, and under what circumstances do we react so defensively that we elicit attacks from others.
There’s a troublesome 3 day transit beginning on April 27 when Mars squares Neptune. It can be a very debilitating. It brings confusion, low energy and feelings of discouragement. You may feel like doing nothing at all for the duration of this transit. There is a tendency to deceive others or be deceived. Dealing with others is challenging now. They may try to discourage you even further or make you do something you do not really want to do. Doing something very impractical is likely during this transit.
We end the month with Saturn turning Retrograde on the April 29. The planet of order's retrograde period is a time to cultivate discipline, patience and self-restraint. Retrograde Saturn gives us an opportunity to look over our personal set of rules. Saturn in reverse means that the external boundaries we live within take a backseat to our rich inner world.
