Jupiter in Scorpio - Digging for the Truth

Jupiter our largest planet is interpreted on its size as a characteristic of expansion in our natal chart. Trust and your values in life are embodied in this planet. Jupiter also represents career, good fortune and prosperity as well as wisdom and dignity. The planet Jupiter’s position in the zodiac shows how you express your need to grow. It shows your interests in the higher values of life and how you share those interests with others. Jupiter rules the sign Sagittarius and before the discovery of Pluto, Pisces as well.

Jupiter orbits through the zodiac every 12 years or so and stays in each sign an average of about one year. For the last 13 months Jupiter has been in diplomacy loving Libra. Cooperation has been the key to success.  From October 10 to November 9, 2018, Jupiter enters the realm of Scorpio and his quest for meaning takes us underground and has us looking at life’s deeper mysteries such as sex and death.

Jupiter was last in Scorpio from mid October 2005 until November of 2006. Scorpio is a fixed (stable) water sign, ruled by transformative Pluto and is characterized by intensity and focus. Scorpio represents the underbelly of society, things that are taboo. It’s the secrets we hold, the awkward conversations, the dark territory of our shadow selves. Scorpio is the detective of the Zodiac and will keep digging until he gets to the fundamental core of a subject, person or concept.

Jupiter shows us where there is development potential. His entry into Scorpio suggests that we have an increasing need for truth and intimacy. Similar to the Sun, Jupiter magnifies what he touches; this may indicate a period where there could be a greater open discussion about those fears and taboos.  The shadow side of this transit is that Jupiter could increase anxiety. The underground world of Hades is not a familiar place to sky God Jupiter and therefore seeing in the dark is not his strong point. Shadows become exaggerated, complexes expand. Fear can turn to phobia, focus to obsession.

Jupiter in Libra didn’t exactly bring about world peace, but he did expose where we have our work cut out for us. Libra’s warrior side mobilized us to walk in the Women’s March, protest the travel bans and most recently “take a knee”. As Jupiter moves into Scorpio, the spotlight is on themes of power and control. While the lines between the “haves” and “have-nots” can sharpen, the world may simultaneously move toward even more of a collective mindset.

Economically, Jupiter in Scorpio can be a positive transit. Scorpio rules joint ventures, shared assets and “other people’s money (investments, loans or inheritances).  It’s a great time to do estate planning or to build up your savings. Scorpio rules real estate, so this cycle could be advantageous for the market. This may be an abundant time for the stock market as well as people are more willing to take risks. But beware!  Jupiter can also breed overconfidence, so be smart with your investments and perhaps talk to a financial planner.

If you or anyone you know was born during the following periods, you will experience your Jupiter Return over the next year which is a very auspicious time of your life. For more information on this unique event, contact me.
