June 2019 - Hang on Tight!

We begin June with the New Moon in chatty Gemini on June 3. This New Moon activates the second Jupiter/Neptune square of 2019 that perfects later in the month by opposing Jupiter and squaring Neptune. There are big ideas and escalating conversations. The New Moon in Gemini comes a time of moving about both physically and mentally, gathering data and information, learning and studying, communicating viewpoints and beliefs.  Now is the time to move the "solid new beginnings" into expanded growth and greater accessibility through the power of promoting an idea. The Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 17 also aspects the Jupiter/Neptune square. This T-square pattern makes Neptune the apex so we will deal with Neptunian traits of delusion and illusion. It seems like for much of June, we’re questioning what do I believe? What is meaningful? What is the truth? As it is the last Full Moon before an Eclipse, we are going to be busy wrapping up the work of the previous eclipse cycle. Think back to what was happening in your life in January 2019, as events from this time are likely to play a part in what you are being called to work on.

Mercury moving into the more emotional sign of Cancer on June 4 sees a strong shift in the way the people and situations behave. People will be a bit more understanding.  But it could become more difficult for some to stand up for themselves.  Mercury in Cancer suggests that our thoughts will be a bit more affected by emotional and subconscious patterns.  A downside of this transit is the possibility of more gloomy or depressed thoughts at this time and the potential of feeling some fear about the future.  As long as we monitor this pitfall, this should be a quiet, thoughtful and creative time for many. However, with Venus entering light-hearted Gemini on June 8, hopefully that will help to cure any mental moodiness and encourage partners to talk, even if it’s off topic.

On June 14, Mars opposes Saturn Rx and fortunately this only comes once a year, but the energy will hang around for at least a week. This is a time of considerable frustration when your progress grinds to a halt due to a myriad obstacles and frustrations. Rules, procedures, and authority seem insufferable now. Feeling of being severely limited and oppressed is common. And then two days later on Father’s Day, June 16, the Jupiter/Neptune square activates. Neither of these planets is famous for boundaries and this is only aggravated by the fact that they’re both in change-loving mutable signs. With Jupiter in thrill-seeking Sagittarius and Neptune in dreamy Pisces, every option looks better than the one before it. To add further stress to an already stressful mid-month Mars opposes Pluto on June 19 and ruthless power struggles is the theme of this transit for the next two days. This can be a very dangerous transit, because it is characterized by a very high amount of energy to control everything and everyone. You may overexert yourself to the point of exhaustion. Alternatively, you may be tempted to exercise your power over others ruthlessly. If you are not careful, you may make a lot of enemies during this transit. However, there is a silver lining in that both Mars and Pluto are in weakened positions (Mars in Cancer, Pluto Retrograde) so this transit is not as intense as it should be. But be on guard nonetheless.

Neptune stations retrograde (which gives us a total of four planets in retrograde) on June 21, just as the Sun enters Cancer. It means Neptune is stationary in this seasonal, solstice chart, fixing these energies in place for the next quarter. Neptune stationing is a wobbly time and we’ve already been trying to figure out what is real and what isn’t with the great big Jupiter-Neptune square. As Neptune retreats, what is revealed is where we have been deluding ourselves but the station itself is the moment when you blink and squint and try to figure out exactly what you’re seeing. The Sun’s entry into Cancer signals the Solstice and is the official start of Summer. As the Sun moves into Cancer, we are being called to get in touch with ourselves and to think about how we wish to channel our energy.

Cancer is a very watery, intuitive sign, so while the Sun is in this placement, it is time for all of us to lead with our hearts and to get in touch with the power and wisdom that can come from our emotions.

The month ends with Mercury entering Leo on June 26, but this won’t be for long due to the upcoming retrograde period next month. Mercury in Leo brings the focus of communication is on getting attention.  Being in a fire sign now and for the next few weeks, Mercury suggests that we are more likely than usual to speak up and need to express ourselves.  Being in a fixed sign, it seems that we are more likely to stick to our guns, but also be more stubborn and less likely to compromise.  This can be a good thing, but also create difficulties if we take it too far.

Duality and change are always June’s mantra when the zodiac’s mutable Twins transit the skies. By the end of this chaotic month it will be Eclipse season. Are your seatbelts buckled?
